From Comparison to Confidence: Helping Girls Celebrate Their Own Strengths

Social media can make it feel like everyone else has it “all together.” For many adolescent girls in Metro Manila, this constant comparison lowers self-esteem. The key is helping them focus on their own unique strengths.

What parents can do:

  • Ask your daughter: “What’s one thing you’re proud of today that has nothing to do with looks or likes?”

  • Encourage “strength spotting” in the family — notice acts of kindness, creativity, or courage.

  • Limit social media time and discuss how online images are often filtered or staged.
