Why do so many girls in the Philippines leave sports and STEM around adolescence? A lack of confidence. Fear of failure, comparison, and stereotypes play a big role. By building confidence, girls are more likely to stay engaged in activities that shape future opportunities.
What parents can do:
Encourage trial and error — “It’s okay if it doesn’t work the first time.”
Highlight role models in sports and STEM from the Philippines.
Be actively involved — attend games, science fairs, and celebrate participation.
